H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana: The presence of Senators to help alleviate the suffering of refugees along the Cambodian-Thai border is both meaningful and necessary.
On the afternoon of October 6, 2025, during the monthly meeting to summarize the outcomes of the work between the 3rd and 4th sessions with the 10 committees and 8 regions of the Senate, His Excellency Dr. Thun Vathana, Second Vice President of the Senate, expressed high appreciation for the Senators who effectively and flexibly fulfilled their duties amid the Khmer-Thai border conflict.
In light of the Thai military’s invasion of Cambodia, Senators prioritized support for the border areas in conflict, assisting frontline forces and refugees by providing food, clothing, medicine, and materials for shelter construction. Concurrently, efforts were made to find jobs for workers returning from Thailand. Although some adjustments were necessary, the implementation of regional and committee plans proceeded as intended.
H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana remarked that the Thai invasion would strengthen Cambodia through internal unity and support for Cambodian products. He encouraged Cambodians to seize this opportunity to foster a sense of national pride and to produce more local goods.
Looking ahead, we will involve collaboration with the government and relevant institutions to secure the release of Cambodian heroes captured by Thai soldiers following the ceasefire and to restore normalcy along the Cambodian-Thai border, along with revitalizing the border economy.
Finally, H.E. Dr. Thun Vathana proposed that the 10 committees, which have received requests and challenges from grassroots communities, prepare a list of the most urgent priority issues or cases that require high-level intervention from the Senate leadership to the government.
